About Ganciclovir A synthetic acyclic purine nucleoside analog of 2`-deoxyguanosine, Antiviral. Mechanism of Action of Ganciclovir Ganciclovir is converted to Ganciclovir triphosphate by Kinases enzyme in the virus. This Ganciclovir triphosphate competitively inhibits DNA polymerase enzyme and inhibits DNA synthesis in the virus. Ganciclovir triphosphate is also incorporated in viral DNA and stops the DNA elongation and permanent inactivation. Indications for Ganciclovir 1,Cytomegalovirus infection Typical Dosage for Ganciclovir Oral: CMV prophylaxis: 1g to be taken every 8 hours. IV Cytomegalovirus retinitis: 5mg/kg two times daily for 2 - 3 weeks. Maintenance dose: 5mg/kg once daily for 1 week
