Humulin-R works to lower blood glucose levels, which is important in the treatment of patients with type 1 diabetes or people who suffer from severe insulin deficiency.
Humulin-R can also be prescribed for patients with type 2 diabetes. Insulin treatments or similar medications help prevent complications of diabetes. When using short-acting insulin, its effect in lowering blood sugar begins after 10-20 minutes, and reaches its maximum effect between 1 and 3 hours after injection, and its effectiveness lasts for 3-5 hours. Because of this short effect, it is usually preferable to take it with intermediate- or long-acting insulin medications.
